Why the hell do people feel the need to use these damn glue traps to catch rodents? There are so many humane traps out there, such as the instant lethal ones that usually snap shut and kill the mouse, or shock it to death. There are even cheaper catch and release traps out there. So why hell bother to going to the glue method that basically just traps the mouse on to it, until it starves then dies? Makes no damn sense.

 

My boss wanted to catch some mice at the shop, and i suggest the catch and release ones. Told him the glue traps were no good. He ignores me and gets the damn glue traps anyways, and put them out last night after i left.

 

My boss is from India, and is a strict Hindu, or so he says They're supposed to cherish and treasure animals, and what not (i think, he says thats the way it is but i never studied the religion).

 

So today a mouse is stuck on it, screaming like crazy. We had another guy there with us who was setting up some new computer stuff, routing all the wires, and even he said that was ****in cruel, and evil to use such a trap.

 

I thought i was going to have to kill the mouse myself. I didn't want it to suffer. I wanted to leave it with my boss to deal with so he could learn a lesson, but i figured he wouldn't take care of it properly. My main goal was not to let the mouse suffer. It was already scared as hell.

 

The boss guy seemed to think that we could just pry it free with a stick, and i tried to explain to him that these arent how the traps work. They're meant to catch the mouse, and the point is for the mouse to not get away. the guy isn't dumb so i don't know why he was acting like it. Maybe he felt bad? I don't know.

 

But damn i hate these traps, always have since i was little and had to deal with a mouse being stuck to one.

 

So i googled it real quick, and turns out you can actually free them with vegetable oil. I had some canola oil. So i put the mouse in a container, put some of the oil all around him, and shut the lid and took it home with me. My house is only like a 10 min drive from work, and by the time i got home the mouse was already unstuck and in the corner of the container. So i took it to an open field and let it go.

 

I understand that mice are considered a pest. Supposedly carry diseases, and all this. But they are animals as well. We shouldn't use the cheap easy method to get rid of them, when there are much more humane ways to do it. And these damn glue traps are the worst.

DAYUM GIRL, nice rant, but i can say that i most certainly agree with you, i must say im mainly a fan of the instant kill ones since it makes them suffer least and still gets rid of the pest. i dont have much bother of mice anyway though.

i thought i was going to have to kill it, for example place a board on top, and drop a big brick on it, or something.

It'd be an instant death pretty much. I could've shot it but i miss alot.

 

luckily the vegetable oil worked great. Probably just made it taste better for any cat that probably ate it yesterday after i released it.

i got really upset once, trying to kill a mouse that was half dead (thanks to ma puddy maw maw) I tried to drown it, i dropped a brick on it etc. i felt terrible. I JUST WANTED TO KILL IT HUMANELY!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAH
