Prosecutors in the Michael Jackson child abuse case have asked for Martin Bashir's documentary Living With Michael Jackson to be shown to jurors.

The controversial programme contains footage of singer Jackson defending his practice of letting young boys sleep in the same room as him at his ranch.

 

The defence said the show was "heavily edited," and was not "reliable evidence that should be presented to a jury".

 

Mr Jackson, 46, has denied 10 counts of child molestation and conspiracy.

 

Prosecutors called the TV programme "a public relations catastrophe" and said jurors could not understand the impact it had had on the singer without them seeing it in its entirety.

 

 

However, the defence argued that the documentary constituted inadmissable hearsay.

 

"It is heavily edited in the most sensational fashion possible," said defence lawyer Robert Sanger "and contains highly inflammatory material regarding matters such as Mr Jackson's care of his own children, plastic surgery, Mr Jackson's financial affairs and other prejudicial matters."

 

"Hollywood techniques were used to make the video more dramatic," Mr Sanger added. "Scenes are juxtaposed. The pace of the programme is edited to build drama."

 

In a separate motion, prosecutors have requested that Mr Bashir should testify at the trial about the making of the documentary.

 

They said they want Mr Bashir to tell jurors whether any of the incidents on the programme were "staged".

 

They also want to know how he formed his opinion of Mr Jackson, which he expressed during the programme.

 

Mr Bashir's lawyers have argued he can not be forced to testify, as he is covered by California reporters' shield law and the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

but they could play the Hidden footage to prove how badly the "living with mj" was editied so they wont show it in court. u know?

You know what really gets me?? Inspite of the Take 2 interview being broadcasted to the public, the general public still blames Michael and sees him as a bad person. I don't get it!! It was CLEARLY shown on the Take 2 documentary, HOW MUCH LWMJ was edited. In the unseen footages, Bashir was praising Michael. But on LWMJ, he twisted every fudging word Michael said. Unbelievable!!

They never show the truth. All the interviews where Michael explaines all the stuff and gives them all answers they never show either.

They only show negative stuff that they think will get people to watch it. They think the truth isnt cool enough to drawl people in.

I agree w/ the defense that the footage is heavily edited I mean that's why Fox had aired the footage you were never meant to see. What kind of real proof will they get out of that? Zero.

i know what ya mean...its media! i dont see how they can possibly see that documentary as a reliable source. who ever said Bashir was a saint? i dont get it...

it would be so unnecessary to show the doc. because it was heavily and carefully edited to make mj out different and weird it would be very unfair if it waas shown
