Man In The Mirror, in case you don't already know, is my ULTIMATE FAVORITE MJ SONG and... *gasp* THAT PERFORMANCE... I LOVE IT!!!!

I LOVE especially the end, where he's helped of the ground then he's like "Black man gotta make a change! The White Man gotta Make a Change! Stand up and make a change!!!" Then he's like "Change YEAH! Change YEAH!! Change YEAH!! change YEAH!!!! STAND UP FO YA BROTHER!! STAND UP STAND UP STAND UP WOOO!!!"

HOW AMAZING IS THAT!?!?! :d/ l-)

Okay, I'm done. :)

I agree a brilliant performance.

However a slight criticism is that he was not singing live. Now I am sure not every performance at the Grammy's is done with playback songs used instead of live singing....

A lot of his performances go most of the song recorded then at the end he starts to sing live doing his ad libs or whatever. Awesome either way! :D

That perfomence was awsome!!! Man IN the Mirror is one of my number ones favorite song of MJ!!!!

yes, that performance was unforgettable...really moving and powerful...breathtaking.

im still undecided about whether it was live or not, im sure that the last part was pretty much live...but the first part of the song, well, all of it except the ad libs at the end, was the original track. u can see at times he moves his mouth a lil after he supposed to be singing...so i dunno. mj is an ace lip syncher tho, heehee, not insulting that

Yes that was not fully live.

I watched that performance again and again as someone here mentioned that it was live and I just could not believe it. I mean put it this way if it is all live then he sings live EXACTLY as he does on the record.

I always thought the ending with the ad libs is live. I could be wrong. But still a CLASS performance.

As I said, A LOT of his performances aren't live singing until the end. Then his microphone kicks in as he starts ad libs or a few lines of whatever song is being performed. This is true for many of the Billie Jean performances. Easy to see that. It's the same for this performance of Man In The Mirror. It's easy to tell if you know how it sounds in studio. He can't possibly perform EXACTLY the same as studio, as someone already said.

Anyway, as for the performance. I kind of felt like his falling to his knees was a bit... not at the right time. I didn't feel it. It could have been a lot more powerful. Like when I listen to the song with headphones on. You know the feeling that overcomes you when it starts getting louder. I didn't get that by watching this performance. It certainly wasn't bad though. Awesome song. Awesome performer. <:-p

I love Man In The Mirror performances! And I think this is one of his best performance.

I like the way he performs it, the emotion he puts into the song. It's really moving.

It's not live though, only the ad-libs behind are live.

I love it when he starts singing live, He is so great. His vocals were great that night. I was 17 then and I was going to go out with friends, But I stayed home just to record it. My friends thought I was crazy.

LOL, no one here will think you crazy! >:p

while everybody's worried about if it was live or not....does anybody actually know who comes in and sings with him at the end?....thats what made that performance classic to me....it was luther vandross i think.. not quite sure who the lady is...but that was bomb ass performance...and alot of his performance are half singing and half lipsyncing if you listen really close tho...you'll notice that his mic is still on and lots of times you can here him actually singin, its just the "studio" track is played higher than his mic ....there are times when he does just lip sync tho...no matter what tho...its mj...so i'm coo...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that whole song is lip-synched except the end ad-libs...but it's still my favorite!! omg.. It's just, I just think the world of it.

I think every MITM performance is moving, though,

Nah, I don't know who that was singing with him, and mjlover4life, don't feel crazy... I would have done the same thing....but I wasn't born until 2 years later. x(

YOu know jojo

about the falling to his knees I was thinking about that for a second...

all I know it must have hurt him that floor is a hard surface and he had no knee pads or anything....have you all noticed in later concerts (e.g. Dangerous and HIStory) he now wears knee protection...

so in that respect for this performance I give him kudos just for that fact alone...very courageous...

Yeah, that's great of course. I just mean while watching it I didn't have the feeling from the sound that I usually do. Not my choice by the way. Just what I felt. :)) Maybe cuz I was expecting it. When listening to the song alone on headphones it's much different. :)
